Help shape the future of Uttlesford

Uttlesford District Council is working with the community to prepare design codes for the area – a set of guides that will shape how future development here should be designed.

We want to make sure that any new development that happens is of a high quality and contributes to making Uttlesford an attractive and distinctive place to live, work and visit.

Good design addresses local context, needs and challenges. The codes will take into account the mix of uses and facilities provided alongside new homes, the quality of the streets and public spaces.

It will also meet the future needs of residents as well as existing, and support the council’s commitment to addressing climate change and reducing carbon emissions.

For Uttlesford, it also means ensuring new buildings and developments reflect the distinctiveness of the area, respecting their historic setting and landscape.

We want the Design Code to reflect local aspirations, deal with local concerns, and respond to everyone’s hopes and fears for the future. We have been hearing from Uttlesford residents about what makes the district unique and what you think would be appropriate in future development. Thank you to everyone who has given their views so far.

Based on what we have learnt, we are currently drafting the Design Codes and will be keen to get your feedback as they develop. You can register to receive updates and take part in the next stage this spring.
